SUSTAINABILITY

Packaging with positive impact

Our mission, our vision and our values are the three axes for fulfilling our goal: to provide packaging with the least environmental impact possible.

Better Packaging
Better World

Towards circularity
Our strategy puts the focus on sustainable development.

Our efforts in sustainability issues for the next few years shape the Comexi Strategy 2030, which is divided into 3 leading sections: People, Planet and Sustainable Packaging.

Our strategy is divided into 4 areas.

Planet We believe it is essential that companies urgently and effectively implement measures to reduce their environmental footprint.

People Diversity is enriching. We work to protect it and create a safe and inclusive environment for all.

Sustainable packaging Comexi is strongly in favour of reducing the impact of its activity on the environment,

Transparency Our sustainability reports show our strengths and our improvement points.

Sustainable packaging
Comexi is strongly in favour of reducing the impact of its activity on the environment, by following the line of the market trend, and not only in reducing its own impact, but also the final impact of its products and the end products in the value chain

Therefore, Comexi responds to the market with sustainable technological innovations such as the solvent-free technologies and more energy efficient machines.

Solvent reduction

Solutions like solvent-free laminating or printing with Electron beam inks both in flexography and offset. The work with partners like Gelflex is key to innovating and launching solutions onto the market that help to create monomaterials, which are much more recyclable and solvent-free.

Reduction of energy consumption

Innovations to minimise the cost of the energy that is used in the drying processes in the laminating and printing machines, such as Genius Dry.

Reducing material

Waste and ink usage using solutions that make the job setup as simple and fast as possible allowing for control and a reduction of inks and coatings.

Usage for everyone

Ergonomics, intuitive use, easy accessibility… We design our solutions so that everyone can use them. Reducing the weight of the components facilitates equity in accessing the work and accessibility and intuitive use through screens, which can be operated by people of all abilities.

Packaging eco design

Did you know there is a more circular version of your flexible packaging?
At Comexi we have teamed up with AIMPLAS – Instituto técnico del plástico to create CIRCULAR PACK, a service through which we can help you design, objectively, the most sustainable packaging solution.

To do so, we carry out neutral studies and analyses by combining our knowledge in the study and selection of materials and in the implementation of sustainable and efficient processes. This is the only way we can find the best alternative for you!

This service is something new in the market, but a fair few companies have already placed their trust in it.. One of our latest success stories is BIMBO Mexico.

Packaging circularity

R-Cycle is a Project, with stakeholders from the whole flexible packaging value chain, that creates a Digital Passport for the flexible materials used in packaging. A system that brings traceability to the material to facilitate its reciclability. Do you want to know all about the project? Check this!

The Circular Economy for Flexible Packaging (CEFLEX) initiative is the result of co-operation between more than 180 European companies, associations and organisations representing the whole flexible packaging value chain. Together we work towards all European flexible packaging being circular in 2025.

Planet
We believe it is essential that companies urgently and effectively implement measures to reduce their environmental footprint.

Given its commitment to corporate social responsibility and deep roots in and respect for its territory, COMEXI is firmly committed to the preservation of our planet. This ecological awareness is embodied in actions and strategies for the sustainability of flexible packaging:

01.

Reduction of carbon emissions and air pollution.

02.

EMAS certification (2013).

03.

ISO 9001:2000 certification (2002) and ISO 14001 (2005).

04.

Flexography machinery life cycle studies.

05.

Sustainable waste management: integration of the circular economy concept.

06.

Reduction of energy consumption from
non-renewable sources.

07.

Purchase of electric energy from 100% renewable sources for the two production centers in Girona, Mas Pins and Mas Joals.

People
Diversity is enriching. We work to protect it
and create a safe and inclusive environment for all.

Comexi is fully aware of its responsibilities and commitment to its geographical and social environment. It condemns all forms of discrimination and violence, while contributing to the creation of employment, wealth, and economic development:

Talent knows no background, gender, or beliefs. Companies must ensure that everyone has the same opportunities and rights in their work environment, and collaborate to extend this to the whole of society.

Charter of diversity

The goal of this adherence is to raise awareness, to advance towards building a diverse workforce, promote inclusion, consider diversity in all people management policies, promote work-life balance and recognise society’s diversity.

Ethical code

The Ethical code is the manifest of the ethical values, principles and rules that prevail in the COMEXI GROUP organisation and, on which the development and growth of the companies within the group is based. At the same time, an Ethics Committee is created, responsible for ensuring compliance with the Code and its implementation. Do you want to know more? Download our ethical code.

Volunteering commission

10 Comexi colleagues make up the volunteering commission. They lead and promote volunteering and co-operation activities with NGOs and other associations to make donations or to work together for fund raising. Some of the associations we work with include La Oncolliga, the Ramon Noguera Foundation, Red Cross, among others.

Transmission of knowledge and talent development

Education holds a vital position for us. And we don’t just say it. Our Ctec (link) is both a space for training our clients, and also a classroom for future generations. Proof of this is the training co-operation between the training cycle and the Santa Eugènia Institute in Girona, where the students do part of their training on our premises, learning with state-of-the-art technology. Also very important are the Manel Xifra Boada awards, which recognise the work and career of professionals and students in the scientific and technological field.

 Business culture and HR actions

The COMEXI integrated management system is designed to respond to the indicated commitments, taking as a reference the areas of excellence, sustainability, preventive culture and innovation:

  •  The client. To ensure the satisfaction of our clients and all the relevant interested parties.
  • Safety first. Adapting activities and program development to eliminate hazards or reduce possible risks for people and/or products.
  • Continuous improvement. The continuous improvement of the integrated management system as a tool for obtaining greater sustainability, competitive leadership, operational excellence, and to move towards zero accidents at work.
  • Compliance. Compliance with the law and applicable rules in each specific area and any aspect of the company, as well as other internal requirements that exist or are subscribed by the organisation.
  • Team. Ensuring equal opportunities for all workers, without discrimination against gender, race or religion, promoting their participation and opinion. The professionals and the management activities they carry out follow the criteria of the ethical code, being fair, and applying common sense and humane approaches and using very good communication.

Our sustainability reports show our strengths and our improvement points.

The reports are carried out using materiality studies, where we base ourselves on prioritising the actions that have the greatest impact for our stakeholders (workers, suppliers and clients) and our business.

They include and detail all the actions carried out in issues on environment, people and governance.
